Brodie Van Wagenen made his first public moves as New York Mets general manager, firing hitting coach Pat Roessler along with bullpen coach Ricky Bones on Monday and announcing manager Mickey Callaway will have a new bench coach. Van Wagenen is already making headlines as he said earlier on Tuesday that he wouldn't rule out Tim Tebow potentially making the Mets' opening day roster.

The Mets went 77-85 in 2018, finishing in fourth in the National League East.

The biggest concern is that he doesn't have experience as a General Manager or any role in the front office of a baseball team for that matter. "You've got to identify who complements yourself".

Former Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., who had been first-base coach, will become a front office adviser. Bones had been bullpen coach since the 2012 season. Former agent, Brodie Van Wagenen will take over as the GM of the Mets after they parted ways with Sandy Alderson last season. "But they're certainly important to me and that's why they're out here this week".

Before hitting the DL, Tebow was batting.273 with six homers for the Binghampton Rumble Ponies-the Mets Double A affiliate. As a team, the Mets hit just.234 with a.312 on base percentage and.389 slugging percentage, marks that all ranked towards the bottom among major league teams in terms of offensive production.

Although Tebow's strikeout numbers are concerning - 103 times in 84 games last year and 126 times in 126 games in 2017 - the 31-year-old is an elite athlete with a power arm as an outfielder. "You're trying to build a winning culture, and you're going to tell me that you're going to put Tim Tebow on your major-league roster?"
