Thierry Henry is the new manager of Monaco, sources have told ESPN FC. Having started my footballing career with this great club, it seems like fate that I will now begin my managerial career here too.

"I was fortunate to receive some very attractive offers over the last few months but Monaco will always be close to my heart".

Monaco, 18th in the table, have turned to Henry after a disastrous start to the new campaign under Jardim with just one win in nine. "I'm incredibly excited to be given this opportunity but now the hard work must begin".

An eight-year spell with Arsenal - where he won two Premier League titles - saw him become the club's all-time leading scorer with 228 goals, while he also won the Champions League during his three-year stint with Barca.

Monaco who parted company with Leonardo Jardim earlier in the week announced the deal by posting a picture of the striker in his Monaco days on twitter.

Henry was with Belgium on Friday as they beat Switzerland 2-1 in the Nations League.

This summer, Monaco got their hands on Aleksandr Golovin, after his impressive performances for Russian Federation at the World Cup.

He scored 51 goals in 123 appearances for France, winning not only the 1998 World Cup but also Euro 2000.

Vadim Vasilyev, Monaco's chief executive, added: 'His knowledge of football, his passion for the game, his high standards and his commitment to our colors make his nomination a reality.

"Thierry is both aware of the task ahead and eager to start his new job".

He will be joined at the club by Valado Tralhao, the Under-23s coach at Benfica, and Patrick Kwame Ampadu, who had been working at the Arsenal Academy.
