If you had any doubt about just how big a deal his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov was, then Khabib meeting with the President of Russia, Vladamir Putin, a few days' after the events of UFC 229, will give you a good idea.

Russian Federation president Vladimir Putin has asked Khabib Nurmagomedov's father "not to punish him too severely" for his part in a brawl which followed his defeat of Conor McGregor in Las Vegas.

While he lost inside the cage, McGregor is set to be a big victor outside of it now that UFC President Dana White has said UFC 229 sold more than 2 million pay-per-views, which would shatter the previous record for a UFC event.

"I will ask your father not to punish you too strictly, because you achieved the main task, worthily and convincingly", said Putin.

"[Nurmagomedov] has to go before the Nevada commission [after his purse from the fight was withheld due to the brawl], and we have to see what's going to happen with Khabib and this whole mess", White told ESPN on Monday.

It's back to the drawing board for Conor McGregor.
