Google Home app updated in time for stronger smart home push

What is Google Home Hub and how does it work?

Did I want to see a Google hub with Zigbee and/or Z-Wave radios?

The Google Home Hub connects to your home network and other devices by 802.11b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz/5GHz) Wi-Fi. It also has soft rounded corners, and is created to sit on a range of surfaces, such as the kitchen counter or nightstand, according to Google. Both have seen some major upgrades over the years, but they're also still a work in progress. Google announced yesterday a new Google Home device named Google Home Hub. Like those, it features Google Assistant. And it provides access to Google products like Search, YouTube, Photos, Calendar, Maps, and more - all viewable from the display. Google Assistant has seen some progress with smart displays from third parties, like the JBL Link View and Lenovo Smart Display, but we haven't seen a Google-made device with a touch screen until now.

Google's done a good job at cutting away at the head start Amazon had with the Echo and Alexa - and the Home Hub means that Google has an answer to all of Amazon's hardware.

Google uses the screen to show you more information about the weather, about local restaurants, and so on. Pricing, Availability, and Expectations By all early impressions, the Google Home Hub doesn't exactly revolutionize the smart screen space. The screen itself only comes in white and the 7-inch, LCD display within keeps the Google Home Hub from being too obtrusive.

"By picking this use case, Google is reminding us that it is late to the market for multi-modal devices", he said.

Separately, the Google Home support page has been updated to support playback speed controls for news and podcasts. It means customers can put the Home Hub anywhere, like a bedside table, without worrying about a security flaw exposing that room to the world.

Google Home Hub doubles as a photo frame. It can pull up photos and features your best shots with a new feature called Live albums. Plus, you can just say to Home Hub, "Hey Google, show my pictures from LA", and voila! However, it did include Ambient EQ light sensor, which allows the screen to automatically adjust to match the lighting in the room. Instead of handing over the firmware to Lenovo, JBL, and LG and letting them modify the operating system, Google handles all firmware and feature updates, that way every Smart Display's user experience is identical. And, when it's time for bed, it'll dim the screen. You can even give other members of the family access to those devices. You can control over 10,000 types of smart home devices from over 1,000 popular brands.

I love the Google Home devices, I think they are incredibly useful when you are not sitting by a computer and sometimes even then.

I didn't hear as much low end as the Google Home delivers, but the sound was full and loud.

It costs $149 in the U.S. (£13 in the UK) from Google Store. And while we're at it, let's throw in the Amazon Echo Spot, considering it's closer in price to the Hub than the Show and also earned an Editors' Choice from us.

GoogleWhen will Google Home Hub be available? Priced at $149, the Google Home Hub is available for pre-order now and will ship October 22nd. It'll be in stores from 22 October in the USA and UK.
