The 49ers announced on Monday that an MRI confirmed Garoppolo did indeed suffer a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs.

With Garoppolo on the shelf, San Francisco will hand quarterback duties to C.J. Beathard.

"But Jimmy is a tough person, will bounce back from this and he'll be ready to go next year".

The Niners struggled with Beathard and Brian Hoyer last season before the midseason addition of Garoppolo changed their fortunes. He will not play again in 2018 after signing a 5-year, $137 million deal with the 49ers during the offseason.

The 49ers will have to wait another year to earn dividends on that investment. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will speak to the media at 4:00.

Brady, of course, tore his ACL in the very first game of the 2008 season when he was hit in the knee by a Kansas City Chiefs defender. After playing Sunday without fellow starter Ahkello Witherspoon and appearing entirely out of sorts during a noncompetitive first half, Robert Saleh's "D" visits a unsafe Bolts' WR corps including Comeback Player of the Year Keenan Allen and ascending Mike Williams, the seventh overall pick last year, coming off his first two-TD game. This season, he has led the team to a 1-2 record with five touchdowns and three interceptions. "This time around it'll be a little easier".
