The Haunting of Hill House Trailer Explores Growing Up in a Haunted House

Flanagan is reuniting with Gerald's Game star Carla Gugino, who plays the Crain family matriarch, for the terrifying series that also stars Michiel Huisman, Elizabeth Reaser, Henry Thomas, Lulu Wilson and McKenna Grace. The horror series bounces between the past to focus on the children's upbringing and the future of their reunion as adults in the face of tragedy.

The Haunting of Hill House is a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson's legendary novel of the same name, about five siblings who grew up in the most famous haunted house in America. It's twice been adapted into a movie, the critically lauded 1963 version and the 1999 critical dud, with both going by the simple title of The Haunting.

This new adaptation, from Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil director Mike Flanagan, is the third live-action interpretation of Jackson's novel.

This project continues a partnership between Flanagan and Netflix, who delivered the service an adaptation of Stephen King's Gerald's Game previous year. The series launches globally on the platform October 12.

Gugino is next slated to star in The Swinging Lanterns Stories with Rebecca Romijn, set for release in December. The trailer for The Haunting of Hill House has dropped, and it's got all of our favorite tropes: creepy kids, a haunted mansion, and stripped-down creepy cover of a popular song (in this case, it's a jangly piano rendition of "Our House" by Crosby, Stills and Young). Far from the '90s sitcom focusing on the character, this series will be much darker and in line with the horror elements found in the pages of the comic book.
