Jose Mourinho takes shot at Chris Smalling's hair after Manchester United win

Manchester United claimed a second successive Premier League victory with a 2-1 win over high-flying Watford on Saturday evening.

Fellaini's header set-up what proved to be Smalling's match-winning volley and also did well in his position as a shield to United's often-nervy back line.

He scored two in two this global break.

"Contrary to some news, to some opinions, by the protocol point of view and according to our doctor, he will be free to play", added Mourinho.

"I'm very happy with the spirit, with something that represents for me the spirit of the team which is Lukaku's sliding tackle after 50 metres running back to help the team".

The Portuguese manager said he had picked Fellaini to beef up the defence for the past couple of games after costly defensive errors against Brighton and Tottenham. "We feel that [because] Fred just arrived yesterday from the Brazilian national team and Marouane has more experience of this kind of match, Fred is on the bench". With Deeney's bruising, punishing style more than capable of pulverising United's vulnerable centre, Fellaini dropped deep to shield the central defenders to the point where he was nearly indistinguishable from them.

But Javi Gracia's side came right back into the game in the 65th minute when Abdoulaye Doucoure picked out Gray, who arrowed a shot past De Gea.

A defeat for United would have seen them suffer three losses in their opening five Premier League games for the first time, but they picked up where they left off against Burnley prior to the global break, professionally dealing with an in-form Watford side.

Paul Pogba, who had three first-half chances, almost doubled two minutes later, but his attempt was pushed over the crossbar by goalkeeper Ben Foster.

With the 25-year-old Romelu Lukaku the first-choice striker and Alexis Sanchez - signed from Arsenal in January - the first-choice left winger, Rashford has to make do with bit-part roles under United manager Jose Mourinho in competition with another overlooked young forward, Anthony Martial.

And this was something that didn't go unnoticed by Mourinho, joking he's not a big fan of the new look.

The delivery was ideal and Kabasele was there to meet it, but a fantastic save from De Gea ensured that the Red Devils bagged all three points.

"If I was still in that dressing room giving personal advice it would be, "Paul, it's obvious you want to play somewhere else but be professional", Neville said.
