The son of a Delhi Police Assistant Sub Inspector has been arrested for brutally beating a woman earlier this month inside an office space in Uttam Nagar.

At another police station in the city, a case of rape has also been filed against Rohit, this one by the woman who was being beaten up by him in the video.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh had taken cognisance of the issue and tweeted that he spoke to the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to look into the matter and asked the department to take appropriate action.

When Tomar allegedly threatened her again, the woman again approached the police.

The complainant said she has now called off the wedding with Tomar. Efforts were made to contact the girl seen in the video but she approached the police on Friday and gave a written statement.

The woman, seen in the video shared widely on social media and shown on TV channels, told the police that Rohit Tomar called her to his friend's office in Uttam Nagar and raped her, Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), said.

The police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 376 (rape) and 323 (causing voluntarily hurt) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused Rohit Tomar.

"In the video that was shot by Rohit's friend, Ali, shows it can be heard the girl pleading for mercy, Sorry galti ho gayi.sorry galti ho gayi (I am sorry)", but Rohit continues to slap and kick her. "Collar pakdegi tu.", the Rohit continues to assault her.

"I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the phone and directed him to take necessary action in this regard", he said on Twitter. On September 2 at around 3 pm, Rohit got hold of the girl in the BPO where they both work.

The woman seen targeted in the video was traced and convinced to file a case against him, the police said.
