If this were the National Basketball Association, the Washington Mystics' front office might be making calls to players of Paul George's or Kawhi Leonard's caliber right now.

Breanna Stewart, Storm: Stewart earned her first All-WNBA First Team honor and first WNBA MVP award after ranking second in the league in scoring (21.8 ppg), third in rebounding (8.4 rpg), seventh in blocked shots (1.44 bpg), eighth in steals (1.35 spg), 10 in field goal percentage (52.9) and eighth in three-point field goal percentage (41.5) for league-leading Seattle. With wins Friday night (89-76) and Sunday afternoon, the Storm remained unbeaten in home games in the WNBA Finals.

"They're the defending champs now, they're young, they're really talented, they're smart, and they know how to play with each other", Washington coach Mike Thybault said. "We don't feel like we peaked and this is it for us", Delle Donne said. "They should be excited about the future". Being considered the best of the best is huge props, considering the abundance of legendary players that UConn has produced in the past 25 years from Rebecca Lobo to Nykesha Sales to Sue Bird, Swin Cash, Maya Moore, Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles, and the list goes on and on.

If there was a surprise, it was Natasha Howard, who was the unexpected star of Game 3.

But over the course of the season, many of those questions were answered, some emphatically. The crowd was laced with sports luminaries like John Wall, Bradley Beal, Darrell Green, Brenda Frese, Derrius Guice and Geno Auriemma. I just wanted to bridge that gap as fast as I could, and they've been great.

"I'm not gonna lie, it was a little quiet when I first came out in my first game. That's what really separated us again". I think we've really grown this fanbase. "To see them here now is not surprising at all, and we definitely appreciate it".

The Mystics' emergence has been led by the aforementioned names, along with other veterans like Latoya Sanders, Monique Currie and Tianna Hawkins. And of course, Atkins emerged as one of the best rookies in a strong 2018 draft class, showcasing her ability as both a tenacious defender and viable offensive threat behind Delle Donne and Toliver. Even in defeat, their budding connection was on full display. "Look, she's a great player". "This is all about Sue", says Breanna Stewart. "There's only progression to be built off of". One of the league's most decorated players also grasps the impact of her latest triumph. Delle Donne waxed poetic about how close the team has become.

ED: "To get her - trust me, I know, I've got you, Panda. We're only out there on the court a little bit of time together, but the moments that we spend hanging out in the airport, playing 'would you rather, ' hanging out, getting dinner together, those are the moments that are so special, and what we're actually probably going to miss the most now that this season has ended". A few tweaks and they can be right back on the doorstep of a championship.
