According to The Daily Record, Spanish club Sevilla and Italian outfit Lazio are interested in signing Boyata in the summer transfer window.

Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata.

"I am not sure", said Rodgers. "It was a fantastic strike, but he has so much magic in him - it's just a question of getting it out", Canning said. "Of course we want quality players but there's still improvement in this squad, this team, lots of young players so we'll continue to work with and improve them", he said.

The Parkhead club rejected a £9million bid from Fulham for the 27-year-old - who is in the last year of his contract - before the English deadline passed on Thursday. There are a couple of issues medically with him as well and of course at this stage it is hard for players, I respect that. "The plan is for him to stay here and I don't see that changing".

"Dedryck is disappointed because he has been made promises that have not been kept". Requests for meetings have been refused.

He said: "I haven't had dealings with Dedryck's agent, it has all been through the club". Obviously when I came back after training he wasn't there.

All I want is for us to improve every aspect of the club.

"I am absolutely positive he could do both but today he did make changes and it was another thing, along with our form, along with recent performances here against Celtic - positive thoughts for us to go into the game absolutely believing we had a chance of winning".

"The official offers were left unanswered, sending the message clearly that Celtic did not want to sell the player".

Lichtenstein, who turned up at Lennoxtown on Friday demanding showdown talks with Rodgers, effectively said Boyata was downing tools in protest at "broken promises" over his future. Can he play with his mind this way?

"My concentration is really on the players that are going to play and are going to be fit to play in Athens". I think it was pretty clear we wanted to keep him.
