REPORT: Tom Herman Named As Tipster That Led To Urban Meyer & Ohio State Investigation

Smith was sacked by the university on July 23 after reports surfaced that his ex-wife, Courtney Smith, filed an order of protection against him.

Former Ohio State assistant coach Zach Smith is reportedly scheduled to meet with the university's investigators next week, according to ESPN.

Jeff Snook, the author who revealed information late last week from Zach Smith's mother and former mother-in-law, dropped more information Saturday morning from unnamed sources indicating Texas head coach and former Buckeyes offensive coordinator Tom Herman was Brett McMurphy's original source in this story-turned-soap opera.

Smith's attorney, Brad Koffel, said his client plans to answer whatever questions the group of investigators want to ask. Ohio State has placed Meyer on paid administrative leave pending the results of an investigation into how he and others at the university handled allegations made by Smith's ex-wife. Meyer later backtracked from that statement, and Smith confirmed that Meyer did know police were investigating allegations against him during the fall of 2015.

"We're not trying to run from the truth, but we're not the only ones with warts on us", Koffel said.

Herman served on Meyer's staff at Ohio State before landing the Houston job in 2015 and moving on to Texas in 2017.
