When the two teams met last season Burnley won the first encounter while their second match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has told the media there's more to the Premier League than Liverpool.

City were almost ideal last time out, winning the league with a record number of points (100), goals (106) and points margin (19).

Arsenal should get plenty as the season goes on - in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette they have two of the top seven favourites to be the league's top scorer - but keeping goals out is Unai Emery's priority. That's the basic principle, ' he urged.

"For that, we are working this week and preparing for this game and preparing for the opposition against City as a collective and as individual players." he advised. As he prepared to head back to London the Catalan cited the 2-0 Community Shield victory over Chelsea at Wembley as evidence of the focus with which his players have started the campaign.

Pep Guardiola believes he is close to implanting the ideal culture at Manchester City and says the key to a "magnificent" follow-up to last season's record title triumph is not to forget it but to remember precisely how that was achieved.

Man city is nearly the ideal squad with a mix of experience (Silva, Kompany, Fernandinho) and youngsters such as Gabriel Jesus and lightning-quick Leroy Sane, not to forget the lethal duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Kun Aguero.

'Any bad moments in the World Cup, start again.

The toughest selection may be in the centre of defence where captain Vincent Kompany and Stones face competition from Nicolas Otamendi and £54million Aymeric Laporte. They like and want to play and they know at our club they have to show me the good things every day.

Guardiola admits it's not part of the job he likes.

Having missed out on the Champions League, Arsenal will play in the Europa league but boy aren't they in safe hands!

"They don't know it".

'It is not comfortable but if you want to compete in four competitions we cannot compete with just two good central defenders. They have to compete between each other and accept my rules.

Speaking ahead of his side's opening game at Arsenal, live on Sky Sports, Guardiola said: "We were the best, definitely, no doubts about that, but we don't play alone".

Arsenal will host the league defending champions on Sunday 12th and the Spaniard has called on his charges to connect with the supporters by giving a good display.

No club has retained the title since Manchester United in 2008-09.
