Liverpool unveiled Xherdan Shaqiri on Friday afternoon.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has welcomed summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri to the club with a teasing social media post after it was confirmed that the Switzerland global would wear the no 23 shirt - which was previously worn by the Reds legend.

However, the 26-year-old was keen to link-up with Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and Liverpool triggered his release clause earlier this week leading to Shaqiri flying home early from his holiday to seal his move to Merseyside.

"I'm very happy for him that he had this lovely season because he is a very nice guy, a good guy".

We played against each other - me with Bayern Munich - and they were always big games.
"That's what I'm here for".

Taking the long way around, Shaqiri has been to the San Siro and the Britannia Stadium along the way, but after the Potters relegation from the top-flight at the end of the last season, it appears he's finally going to get his move to Anfield.

The Swiss worldwide winger is the Reds' third major purchase of the summer, and has penned a five-year deal at Anfield.

Shaqiri becomes Liverpool's third summer signing after Fabinho and Naby Keita. That was a big point for me to come here, because of the coach.

Shaqiri has been told to spend time relaxing following his World Cup exertions over the past month, which ended with defeat to Sweden in the last 16 on July 3, before linking up with his new teammates for the International Champions Cup in a week's time. I want to improve myself too, I want to be with the best and I want to win titles.

"I think the English phrase to explain the decision to sign Xherdan is a "no-brainer". When someone like him becomes available in this way you have to react if you are smart - and we have".

The German manager closed his argument iterating that Shaqiri will be a flawless fit within the current Liverpool roster.
