Zombieland 2 Officially Moving Forward With Original Cast

Zombieland Sequel

Zombieland Sequel

Zombieland came out in 2009 and quickly became one of the most talked-about and acclaimed hits for the zombie genre, with critics and audiences praising it for its intelligent humor, gleeful gore, self-aware nature and the minor ensemble's fantastic chemistry. The original writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, are returning too.

Nine years after the release of the cult-favorite horror comedy, Sony Pictures is at long last reuniting the original cast for the sequel to Zombieland.

Director Ruben Fleischer and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were all put on the map following the success, with Fleischer helming the most recent entry into Sony's first Spider-Man spinoff Venom, and Rheese and Wernick going on to help bring the Deadpool franchise to life for Fox, and all of them will be returning to the director's and writers' chairs for the sequel.

The sequel will take the quartet out of the amusement park and toward the White House and the heartland, all while battling "evolved" zombies. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

Zombieland 2 will begin filming in January of 2019 with an official release date of October 19th, 2019 to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. After years of speculation, Zombieland 2 is officially happening and you can read the official announcement over at The Hollywood Reporter. Not only that, but Wernick believed that all four original leads would return.

"This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time - and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail", said Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch in a statement. "These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters".

No need to double tap anymore: Zombieland 2 is alive. "We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly unbelievable". And while it remains to be seen if this team can capture the same magic we saw up on screen back in 2009, we're certainly excited to find out.
