Liverpool have announced the signing of Switzerland global Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City.

The 26-year-old, who scored 15 goals in 92 appearances for the Potters, will wear the number 23 shirt at Anfield.

His club career involves FC Basel, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Stoke City - the 26 year old winger also has 74 worldwide caps to his name, and 21 goals.

Shaqiri said: "I'm very happy to be here".

Shaqiri told Liverpoolfc.com: "He [Salah] came for training and a trial when I was at Basel".

He went on to add that it was a moved he'd finally managed to finalise: "As a player you always want to be on the biggest stage in football". He had an incredible season last year and I hope he can do it this year too. I'm happy that I see him here.

At the World Cup, Shaqiri scored a 90th-minute victor to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Serbia in the group stage last month.

Xherdan Shaqiri celebrates after scoring Swizerland's second goal against Serbia in the World Cup.

The Swiss becomes Liverpool's third arrival of the summer, after midfielders Fabinho from Monaco and the previously bought Naby Keita of RB Leipzig. "Players are always sad when they don't win trophies but hopefully we can do it this year".

"From our perspective, he is someone who makes a big difference to the squad and team, because he can fit in so many positions in our system".

"I know the coach from Germany, when he was at Dortmund". He was easily their best player and also put in impressive displays as Switzerland reached the round of 16 in the World Cup.
