Six of Gerrard's summer recruits started that match and the Liverpool legend believes his side are prepared to get their European season underway.

Scottish giants Rangers have signed Nigeria forward Sadiq Umar on a season-long loan from Serie A side AS Roma.

"Rangers are delighted to announce the signing of Umar Sadiq on a season-long loan from Roma, subject to worldwide clearance", read a statement on club website.

"When my agent told me Steven Gerrard was the manager, I said "no problem" and I am happy to come and join this team", he told Rangers TV.

Should the tall 21-year-old complete the switch to Glasgow, Rangers will be getting an exciting young talent who has impressed out on loan with NAC Breda in the Eredivisie earlier in the year.

The fans already seem to have given him an interesting nickname but I'll let you discover that for yourselves, I couldn't possible repeat the intimation here!

"He told me about the team, the players, that everyone will be at my side if I come here and he will help me to go forward in my career". I don't watch the league, but I know about Celtic and Rangers in Scotland.

Gerrard will be able to add Coulibaly to his Europa League squad, as they begin their qualifying campaign against Macedonian outfit, FK Shkupi on Thursday.

"I'm very happy to be here", Coulibaly, capped nine times for Mali, said.

"I spoke to him when I was in Mali and he asked me if I wanted to join his team, and I said yes, although I was anxious it wasn't actually Gerrard [on the phone]!"
