USC fired Steve Sarkisian back in 2015 after his struggles with alcohol abuse became a public embarrassment for the university, and the former head football coach responded by suing for wrongful termination.

Sarkisian was sacked as USC's head coach in October 2015 after the school became aware of several incidents in which he appeared in public or coached the team under the influence of alcohol. While he blamed the incident on mixing medication and alcohol, reports surfaced of Sarkisian being involved in other alcohol-related incidents.

Sarkisian filed a $30 million lawsuit against USC claiming the school knew about his alcoholism and still fired him, which caused him mental anguish.

But an arbitrator ruled last week in favor of the university, saying Sarkisian had hidden his condition from the school. After posting a 34-29 years in five years as the coach at Washington, Sarkisian went 9-4 and won the Holiday Bowl in his first season in Los Angeles in 2014. "But I am in now a great place, healthy, happy and loving my job with the Falcons and have the support of my family and friends and that's where my focus is and will remain".

'We are pleased that the arbitration has reached its rightful conclusion and we wish Steve Sarkisian well, ' said a statement from USC Athletic Director Lynn Swann. He now is the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons.

The school fired Sarkisian in the middle of the 2015 season - his second as coach - due to personal misconduct that came to light after a freaky rant at a Salute to Troy event was caught on video. The arbitrator reportedly denied all of Sarkisian's claims and said that California disability laws do "not insulate the failure to control a controllable disability nor afford an employee a second chance to control a disability in the future". The Trojans were off to a 3-2 start in 2015 prior to his dismissal.

The 44-year-old Sarkisian went into alcohol rehabilitation treatment after he was sacked.
