The HBO 'Game of Thrones' prequel will start filming this year

The prequel's pilot will begin filming in Belfast in October, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

Because the series in set so far into Westorosi history, don't expect any of your favorite characters to show up in this - unless you truly love the Night King.

While one "Game of Thrones" chapter is closing, another may be opening.

The pilot order describes the series as revealing "the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know".

"Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin wrote about HBO moving forward with a pilot order in a June 11 blog post. The good news is that if everything goes according to plan and HBO is happy with the pilot, we might not have to wait long for more Game of Thrones. My vote would be THE LONG NIGHT, which says it all, but I'd be surprised if that's where we end up. And there are several other "Game of Thrones" spinoffs in the works as of yet.

Staffers working at Belfast's Paint Hall studios in the Titanic Quarter have reportedly been told that the next project they'll be working on will take place 1,000 years before the events of the main series.

Jane Goldman is set to serve as the prequel series' showrunner. Goldman wrote the "Kingsmen" films and one "X-Men" movie.

The final season of "Game of Thrones" will air in 2019, with veterans of the series returning to play key roles behind the scenes.
