Rodriguez's family said during his evening walk, he was confronted by a woman with a child after he accidentally bumped into the girl as he tried to pass them on the sidewalk. Rodriguez is now hospitalized for his injuries.

"[They said] 'Go back to your country, why are you here?' Bad things", she said, quoting the witness. Erik Mendoza, Rodriguez' grandson, says that Rodolfo does not speak English and does not know why he was attacked.

According to Mendoza, the woman in the video pushes him to the floor before grabbing a brick and beating him with it.

Los Angeles Sheriff's Department are investigating the attack and have appealed for witnesses.

Misbel Borjas, a neighbor, witnessed the attack from her auto, she told the Los Angeles Times. Rodriguez-a permanent resident, per the Washington Post-says he was headed to a Willowbrook park when he passed a woman who "hit me until she was done".

The attack left the elderly man with bruises all over his body, a broken cheekbone and broken ribs, KNBC reported.

Rodriguez doesn't remember much about the attack but was able to identify his attacker in the video.

"I'm just overwhelmed how anybody can do this to a human being at all", Mendoza told KCBS-TV.

Of the injuries and the gruesome nature of the beating, Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputy D'Angelo Robinson said: "We are concerned, especially with the type of crime they committed".

"How can you hurt a 92-year-old man?" said Mendoza, who told CNN that Rodriguez turns 92 this fall. 'A 92-year-old senior citizen, what can he do to anybody? He said. "That's why we're still in shock, as you can see he's badly injured".

The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Rodriguez's medical costs.

At the time of this writing, the GoFundMe for Rodriguez has raised over $39,000 - more than double the $15,000 they originally asked for.

There are slight discrepancies in reporting now, as to whether three or four men joined the African American woman in beating Rodriguez, and as to whether all of them were African American. Police are now looking for a female suspect and three to four males.
