The initial announcement of the game was made at this years TennoLive 20189 - free-to-play titles still have a questionable reputation among some players who believe such games often lack imagination and content.

After the success of Warframe on the Xbox One and PlayStation platforms, game developer Digital Extremes is ready to port the game over to the Nintendo Switch as well. It promises to offer some unique visuals in terms of "seascape flora, giant mushrooms, alien rock formations, rare creatures, and more". Some of the indie games already released have gone on to become million sellers worldwide.

"Fortuna" isn't the only place fans will be transported to in the coming days, however.

Meanwhile, Digital Extremes has a second expansion planned that will introduce space combat called Codename: Railjack.

However, the massively popular Fortnite has more than likely played a huge role in the acceptance of free-to-play games.

The game is now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One and features hundreds of of weapons and over 35 Warframes, and thousands of customisation options. Details, however, are scant: Neither Digital Extremes nor Panic Button have announced a release date, and neither have they confirmed the heavily-expected full cross-play functionality that will allow Switch players to team up with users on any other platform. If you're interested in cross-play, however, that's a feature that's now on the backburner, though the Digital Extremes team is looking into making it a reality in the future.
