Fellow judge Howie Mandel agreed wholeheartedly, sending the teen straight through to live rounds with a press of the coveted Golden Buzzer.

The schoolgirl from Peterlee will now be in the running for the $1m (£750,000) prize money on the NBC show. That changed her life.

When the song ended she got a standing ovation, much to her dad's delight, who was watching with host Tyra Banks from backstage.

The judges were left stunned.

From the first moment Hadwin began to sing, judge Simon Cowell was absolutely floored, and he had nothing but praise for the fantastic songstress after her performance.

In her performance Tuesday, she wowed the judges with her rendition of Frank Sinatra's "My Way". "The only thing I can do for you, young lady, is give you..." "Oh my gosh. You are not from this era", he says seeming disappointed he can't offer her a record deal there and then. Howie said as he hit the Golden Buzzer.

Host Tyra Bank adds: "You were absolutely fantastic".

She tweeted her thanks Tuesday night.

It's not her first foray into talent shows, after being pipped at the post on The Voice Kids UK.

An incredibly shy girl stunned audiences and judges on "America's Got Talent" with a voice from a different time. Comparing Hadwin to a young Joplin, Mandel recalled the story of how legendary music producer Clive Davis discovered Joplin and immediately signed her to his label.
