The last time there were two Triple Crown champions in the same decade was the 1970s, which produced Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed.

This year marks the 150 running of the Belmont Stakes, the oldest of the three races and the longest at its 12-furlong distance.

This is the second Triple Crown win for legendary horse trainer Bob Baffert.

Justify went off as a prohibitive 3-5 favorite and paid $3.60, $3.50 and $2.80, becoming the first ever Triple Crown victor to defeat nine opponents at Belmont.

Hofburg was third in the thrilling race which saw Justify challenged at the top of the straight in front of 90,000 screaming fans.

It's been baked dry by sunny skies and 80-degree weather. A flop at the track might make Coolmore, whose USA business Ashford Stud also has American Pharoah's breeding rights, more cool on a Triple Crown winner's stock.

Justify's victory silenced the skeptics who believed the colt was due for a loss because of his rushed schedule and close result in the Preakness.

"To me, the Triple Crown is all about the horse getting his name on that banner up there", he said.

Baffert nicknamed his crew Camp Justify, and the bucolic corner barn setting fit the bill. A combination of factors can help or hurt a horse, including a poor start, bad racing luck or jockey error. "I was blown away", Mara said via the New York Post. But Smith confessed that Espinoza's Triple Crown journey three years ago actually helped him Saturday.

Justify made history on Saturday by winning the Triple Crown, which reportedly increased the value of his breeding rights, according to ESPN. Justify, the three-year-old chestnut colt, completed his improbable Triple Crown journey with a dominating win at the 2018 Belmont Stakes.

The food in some ways is typically NY: pizza, wings, hot dogs and beer. There's a reason the Belmont backstretch is known as the Graveyard of Champions, just as the race itself is rightfully known as the Test of Champions.

So, first, the Belmont Stakes' past. That'll be run later Saturday.

The 4-year-old filly cruised to a 7 1/2-length victory while snapping a three-race skid. "He's so gifted", Smith said in a TV interview directly after the race.

The 52-year-old jockey knows the sprawling track and its sweeping turns well, having been the leading rider in NY from 1991 to '92.m.

Justify has won the Belmont Stakes to claim the 13th Triple Crown in the history of horse racing. "All the other horses looked skittish, and Justify looked like King Kong".

Coolmore previously paid $70 million in 2000 for Fusaichi Pegasus, who won the Kentucky Derby that year and five of his seven starts.

Gronkowski, named for and partly owned by New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, returned $13.80 and $7. The football star has purchased a small interest in the colt.

Justify's victory gives racing its second Triple Crown victor of the decade. The thoroughbred won the 1 3/16-mile Preakness at Pimlico Race Course on May 19 by holding off Bravazo by a half-length on a muddy track. In that case, the last Triple Crown victor came when Jimmy Carter was in the second year of his Presidency, the Shah of Iran was still in power, and the Soviet Union still existed and had not yet launched what would become a disastrous war in Afghanistan, and Grease had not yet been released in theaters.

Until Feb. 18, Justify had never even been in a race, and now he's immortal. Restoring Hope, who like Justify is trained by Baffert, last ran May 5 but not in the Derby.

On a cloudy 80-degree day at Belmont Park, Justify proved a cool customer.
