Ben Simmons Named Finalist For NBA Rookie Of The Year

The standout award is, of course, the MVP honor and the trio of James, Harden and Davis has separated themselves from the rest of the pack with their performances in the regular season.

The NBA announced the finalists for Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday - and Draymond Green's name was nowhere to be found.

On Wednesday evening the National Basketball Association revealed their finalists for their annual slate of individual regular season awards.

The Sixers' point guard also said he would like to win the award for teammates Embiid and Dario Saric, who lost to Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon last season (see story).

Harden has been the MVP runner-up in two of the past three seasons, and many feel that his incredible season - leading the league in scoring (30.4 points per game) while finishing third in assists (8.8 per game) on a Rockets team that finished with a league-high 65 wins - will be enough to finally get him the hardware. He carried New Orleans after All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles injury and led the team to the second round of the playoffs for the second time in franchise history. He has finished in the top 10 in MVP voting every year he's been with the Rockets (2013-2018). The winners will be announced on June 25 at the 2018 NBA Awards in Santa Monica, California.

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons believed throughout this season they should be named Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively. The Celtics' Brad Stevens, Jazz's Quin Snyder and now-former Raptors head coach Dwane Casey are the finalists in that category.

Sixth Man of the Year: Eric Gordon (Houston Rockets), Fred VanVleet (Toronto Raptors) and Lou Williams (Los Angeles Clippers).
