Del Toro has previously dipped his toe into TV with The Strain- the show was based on his vampire novel and it ran for 46 episodes on FX - and he's returning with a new anthology series.

Netflix has ordered a horror anthology series created by Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro.

Del Toro will not write and direct each episode. Del Toro is a longstanding fan of the original books, particularly Stephen Gammell's notorious illustrations, which he cites as being 'scary as fuck'. This is the first horror anthology for the streaming giant but another big collaboration. Del Toro is, by now, a film establishment all of his own - though it should be remembered that Hitch was the master of suspense, while del Toro's genre is decidedly horror.

The flexibility of Netflix combined with the wild mind of del Toro should create for a mind-boggling new series. Netflix also picked up anthology horror series Slasher a year ago from defunct Canadian channel Chiller.

Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight is a Netflix production.

Guillermo del Toro is an established horror enthusiast who has frightened audiences with past projects, such as Crimson Peak, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. Netflix can't answer these questions yet, but from the looks of it, the show is still early in development. One can probably assume that each season will have ten episodes, given the title, but we'll have to wait and see what other directors del Toro will enlist and when we'll get to see the show hit the service.
