Laurel or Yanny? This audio clip is driving the internet crazy

A Twitter user posted a four-second clip that has divided the internet, with users split as to which one they're hearing. The similarites did not escape Twitter users.

There are two separate voices in the recording, one saying "Laurel" at a lower frequency and the other saying "Yanny" at a higher frequency. To some people, the word sounds like "yanny". As of 4 p.m. "Laurel" was trending on Twitter, while "Yanny" was not. We tested this out, and we still only hear "laurel" on both mobile and desktop.

"If you hear Yanny and not Laurel I don't trust you", user Quincy Quarter-Zips tweeted.

Sports writer Ted Berg wrote "there's no way anyone could hear that as Yanny", and "anyone who says they do is lying for shock value".

"Watched this for 5 min and heard yanny.watched it 5 min later and I hear laurel".
