AT&T's DirecTV Now live TV service launches a DVR, upgrades the app with new features

The new DVR feature supports 20 hours of recorded shows and movies on DirecTV Now across devices - including Apple TV - at no additional cost.

DIRECTV NOW has been beta testing a brand new interface, for quite a few months now.

Twenty hours of free recording is currently available today as we continue to evolve our beta testing of the Cloud DVR feature and expand availability to all DIRECTV NOW customers.

AT&T originally teased DirecTV Now's Cloud DVR feature almost a year ago, opening the feature up to beta testers gradually over the last few months.

DirecTV Now version 2.0 is now available through the U.S. Apple TV App Store. You can record an entire series or just one episode on nearly all of the channels on DIRECTV NOW.

The new DirecTV Now interface puts users' most-watched channels and favorite programs at the center of the app, whereas those were accessible through separate menus.

DIRECTV NOW will be launching more DVR options later this summer including the ability to record up to 100 hours and keep the programs stored for up to 90 days for $10 per month.

AT&T also has expanded the video-on-demand lineup on DirecTV Now, providing access to more than 25,000 titles depending on subscription package. While you can't fast-forward through commercials in on-demand content, it will help you preserve some of your needed Cloud DVR capacity. The saved content can be watched on any device that supports DirecTV NOW. Sick of your spouse's love for reality TV? The update also boosts the maximum number of simultaneous streams from two to three, though the customer must pay an extra $5/month to get that third stream.

Last but certainly not least, AT&T has revamped the DirecTV Now interface on iOS and tvOS. In addition, you can view a live stream while browsing the program guide.

If you happen to jump into a live episode late, you can return to the beginning of that episode and immediately start recording.
