Overwatch Anniversary Event Officially Announced

As we near the game's second anniversary, Blizzard is gearing up a fresh event to celebrate the occasion.

Finally a free weekend is also set to take place on the weekend of the anniversary (May 25 through May 29) which will give everyone a good chance to dive in.

The new cosmetic items will include eight new Legendary skins and dance emotes for Doomfist, Moira, and Brigitte (Overwatch's three newest characters). Everyone who logs in to Ovewrwatch during the event will receive a Legendary Anniversary Loot Box, which guarantees at least one legendary-rarity cosmetic, so at the very least, you'll want make sure you check in while the event is up and running.

Blizzard also announced that a new version of Overwatch, Legendary Edition, will be released digitally on May 22 as part of the celebrations.

In addition to this, there's a new Deathmatch map called Petra, and Deathmatch will have a new competitive mode, with placement matches, skill rating tiers and leaderboards. Blizzard confirmed today that the anniversary event will begin on May 22nd.

Here's everything you need to know about the Overwatch two-year anniversary event, including the start time and all the items. During the event, players will not only be able to earn new skins, but they will also be able to grab other cosmetics from other events.

Over 50 new items are being added to the game with the Anniversary event. It hasn't been stated whether or not this mode will be permanent, or if it'll just last for the anniversary event only.

Junkrat was featured getting a pirate-themed skin that can be unlocked via loot boxes or in-game cash.

However, Anniversary loot boxes will not only feature Anniversary items, but will actually contain a mixture of all items from past seasonal events. Everyone will get one of these boxes when first logging in to the event, but one will also come free for those who buy the 50 box bundle.
