Ryan Shazier serves as honorary captain at Ohio State spring game

Now, Ohio State's most important offseason decision looms. Tate Martell is still in the mix, but he's clearly running behind the other two.

"We have to make some decisions".

While Haskins did some great things in the third quarter, the fourth belonged to Burrow, who added some intrigue to the quarterback battle.

Ohio State's seventh-year coach said he will evaluate all the information the team has before making a decision. Will he win the starting quarterback job, or is he destined to be featured in certain packages while serving as the team's primary backup?

Burrow was quarterbacking for Gray on both touchdowns, which finalized the winning 23-point margin.

In limited action behind Barrett last season, Haskins flashed some major potential that suggested he could be the heir apparent.

The three quarterbacks rotated on squads with starters and inexperienced players Saturday.

Joe Burrow led the way with 238 yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-22 passing, while Dwayne Haskins threw for 120 yards and two scores on 9-of-19 passing.

Joe Burrow heaved one last long ball down the right sideline at Ohio Stadium - a 42-yard touchdown connection to Demario McCall. "The decisions have not been made". He will graduate from OSU after this summer and could transfer as a graduate student with two years of eligibility remaining.

"You can only have one guy play", Burrow said. In a recent podcast interview, he said he wants to be one of the best linebackers ever and make it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. "I didn't come here to sit on the bench for four years", he said. I know I'm a pretty good quarterback.

Burrow said he's been given ample opportunity and is happy with how he has competed with Haskins.

"It would be really hard for me to leave", Burrow said. "I've put so much into this".

Haskins said he's done enough to be the starter.

Meyer has challenged his receivers to be elite. He redshirted his first season with the Buckeyes. That unit included Devin Smith, Michael Thomas and Jalin Marshall. So I'm taking every step of the way, I'm giving everything I got. Both will be fifth-year seniors. "That's why we didn't want to just bag it", he said. So we're going to have some very good meetings. He's not only saying that to (reporters), he's saying that to us as well. The people at the Steelers loved me before I got hurt.

Shazier has been recovering from a spinal injury he suffered during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in December. He caught scoring passes from Burrow of 50 and 43 yards.

And because the game was played, Shazier, the former Ohio State linebacker, was able to fulfill his duties as honorary captain. He rode in a cart but stood up to an ovation at midfield when he was introduced.

In some places, it's just a rite of spring.

Shazier, who served as an honorary captain along with Malcolm Jenkins for the game, also stood and addressed the team in the locker room prior to the game. His longest run was a 30-yarder.
