Already thin at shortstop, Rangers see Profar exit early

Profar latest injured for banged-up Rangers

Texas Rangers shortstop Jurickson Profar was placed in the Major League Baseball concussion protocol Monday after a second-inning fall in which he landed on the right side of his head. Profar was trying to turn a double play on a ground ball in the first inning, but Mallex Smith slid into him, which caused Profar to hit the ground hard.

He was tended to by head athletic trainer Kevin Harmon as well as a Rays physician before being escorted off the field. Profar is in the concussion protocol and will be re-evaluated on Tuesday. He was replaced by Drew Robinson.

This apparent injury is bad timing for Profar, as he just got the opportunity to start at shortstop after Elvis Andrus went down with an injury.
