The residence of Pakistani judge Ijaz ul-Ahsan, a Supreme Court justice who is monitoring the corruption cases against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, came under firing by unknown gunmen on Sunday, triggering widespread condemnation in the country.

Gunshots were fired twice at Justice Ijaz's house-once during the previous night and again on Sunday morning. It is uncertain that were these same assailants that fired the shots earlier or were these two different groups of unarmed assailants.

Meanwhile, the cowardly attack raked in support for the Supreme Court judge, one of them being from Imran Khan, chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

A joint investigation team has been formed to investigate firing on the residence Supreme Court judge Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan.

The resolution demanded that the concerning authorities should provide foolproof security to the judges to avoid such incidents in the future. PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in a statement called for a judicial investigation into the incident.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) condemned the incident and said the relevant stakeholders should ensure protection of state institutions.
