Jose Mourinho eyes SHOCK Chris Smalling replacement

Manchester United are eyeing a £35million swoop for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire

Maguire has starred in the heart of Leicester's defence this season while also usurping Chris Smalling in the England set-up.

Steve Bates of the Sunday People wrote that United manager Jose Mourinho has been "hugely impressed" with Maguire, who is valued at £35 million, nearly double the fee Leicester paid to sign him from Hull City last summer (h/t the Mirror).

The 25-year-old made his first senior England appearance in October and could be set for a starting berth at the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation. Meanwhile, Smalling's spot isn't as assured.

Bailly has been a revelation at centre-back since moving to Old Trafford from Villarreal in 2016, but Smalling and other options in that area, like Phil Jones and Daley Blind, haven't been able to match his quality.

Now it would seem the Special One is after another new Three Lions star, in Leicester's Maguire.

The defender has been a regular fixture in the Leicester City team so far this season and has scored two goals and made four assists in 33 Premier League games so far this term.

Smalling may well find himself replaced at Old Trafford by global team-mate Harry Maguire, who would be available for £35million, according to the Mirror.
