The accused used fake identity proof to make friends across the medical college and even participated in events organized for doctors. He further said that since AIIMS had some 2,000 resident doctors at the campus, it was hard to keep track of all of them, a fact that Khurram seemed to have used to his advantage. When police detained him on Saturday, they were amazed by his "knowledge' of medicines, the names of doctors and department heads at AIIMS".

HT quoted the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) chief Harjit Singh saying that he recently became suspicious of Khurram's activities after which he made a decision to keep a watch on him. He befriended junior as well as senior doctors at the premier hospital, and even got an access into their WhatsApp group.

In a case that brings up hard questions on the wellbeing and security of patients at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), a man was arrested for allegedly impersonating a doctor for 5 months in the nation's premier medical facility. According to Financial Express, doctors became suspicious of Khurram when he was attending a marathon on Saturday. We found out that he made different claims to different doctors. To some, he would claim that he was a junior resident doctor while to junior resident doctors, he would introduce himself as an undergraduate medical student. One of the reasons he said he wanted he help one of his family members get better treatment through preferred doctors. He has no criminal records and he had posted many pictures on social media wherein he's seen wearing a lab-coat and a stethoscope.

According to Singh, there are around 2, 000 resident doctors at AIIMS and it is quite hard to know each and every person individually, so Khurram used this issue to his advantage and never got caught by anyone. He also said that he pretended as a doctor because he was fond of spending time with doctors.

"He would roam around wearing the lab coat and stethoscope all the time". Later he was asked for his identity, and resident doctors also asked him few questions to which he could not give a satisfactory reply.

Financial Express reports that Khurram was charged under IPC Sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for goal of cheating) at Hauz Khas police station and has been lodged in Tihar Jail, DCP (south).

There were also photographs of him with politicians.
