Wojnarowski added that the Suns' search has thus far been "focused on securing a candidate with a successful head coaching resume in the National Basketball Association". That's exactly the reason why former Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale was present at the team's practice ahead of their playoff opener against the San Antonio Spurs, per Mark Medina of The Mercury News.

The Memphis Grizzlies caused heads to turn around the league earlier this season when the team made a decision to fire head coach David Fizdale.

The 43-year-old Fizdale led the Memphis Grizzlies to 43 wins last season and a playoff appearance in his first season as an National Basketball Association head coach. In 2008, Fizdale joined the Miami Heat and was promoted to associate coach that same year when Erik Spoelstra assumed the head coaching job upon Pat Riley's retirement from the bench. He won National Basketball Association championships with the Heat in 2012 and 2013. That made it a surprise when 19 games into this season, he was sacked after a 7-12 start.

The Knicks fired Jeff Hornacek after the regular season ended Wednesday and have ramped up their search over the past 48 hours. Jay Triano, who succeeded Watson as the team's interim head coach, is also expected to interview for the position.

"Steve and I have always had a great relationship", Fizdale said.
