Welbeck has endured a largely frustrating season that has pushed to the periphery at Arsenal following the high-profile signings of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the former Manchester United striker starting 10 Premier League games in the current campaign and used more often than not as a substitute.

Wenger believes Welbeck, who also scored in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final clash against CSKA Moscow in midweek, can make a valuable asset to the Three Lions as they prepare to make the trip to Russian Federation in June for the World Cup. He looks like that is where he is now.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Danny Welbeck has done enough this year to warrant a place in the England squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup. Maybe he would not be there now if he had played all the games. Overall, if Danny is injury-free, is a very good player.

Speaking at a news conference after Thursday's draw with CSKA Moscow, Wenger said: "We know how good he is and I said that many times".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has talked up Danny Welbeck's versatility and suggested that the attacker can offer England a lot if he is included in their World Cup squad. "He was a very good player".

"Maybe", he said. "That reminded him that he is not completely forgotten because at the moment everybody is talking about Harry Kane and rightly so".

Welbeck has been a valued member of the England squad over the years and has an excellent record at worldwide level, registering 15 goals in his 37 caps, yet he did not feature in the October or November internationals this season.

"But there is room for him. He can play with anybody".
