John Farrell to join Reds as an adviser in front office

Farrell was sacked by the Red Sox after last season. He posted a 432-378 record over five seasons with Boston, including a World Series championship in 2013 and two last-place finishes.

In his final season, Farrell went 93-69 and won the 2017 AL East title but the Red Sox were eliminated in the ALDS for a second straight year.

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski replaced him with Alex Cora on October 22.

The 55-year-old Farrell is expected to report to Reds spring training camp in Goodyear, Arizona, on Thursday.
