Chibok parents travel to Dapchi for sympathy visit

Mr. Buhari paid his first visit to Dapchi, a town in the northern state of Yobe, where he met with the parents of the abducted schoolgirls.

The exterior of Government Girls Science and Tech College in Dapchi, Yobe State, Nigeria, raided by Boko Haram militants on February 22.

In September 2017, some 100 Chibok girls were reunited with their families after the Nigerian government shelled out over €2 million in ransom payments to Boko Haram terrorists.

The president is expected to meet parents of the abducted students.

Buhari said government was restrategising and partnering with local and worldwide community to ensure the rescue of every missing school girl.

"For us the parents of the missing girls, Our message to him is very clear; he should ensure that our daughters return safe and on time to us", one of the parents said.

Buhari said he was in Yobe State to express his honest sympathies with the parents, families, the Government and the entire people of Yobe State "whose daughters were callously abducted by unrepentant terrorists".

Blaming the kidnap on the "incompetence and carelessness of our government", the group urged the authorities to do everything possible to free the girls.

He said: "Since the inception of this administration, we have remained resolute in our fight against Terrorism and Boko Haram insurgents".

If lawmakers accept the committee's report it will be sent to Buhari and the new members can be sworn in.

Buhari, the 75-year-old former military ruler who made security the cornerstone of his 2015 election run, was in Yobe as part of a tour of areas beset by violence and crime.

Meanwhile, President Buhari had a stopover in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, where was earlier received by Governor Kashim Shettima. We'll use our military might to crush them and provide a lasting peace in the country. "Be assured that measures are being put in place to achieve these objectives".
