His 3.9 yards per carry were a career low and ranked 26th.

Hyde started all 16 games for San Francisco last season, crafting 240 carries for 938 yards. He also saw a lot more action off short passes, resulting in career high targets (88), receptions (59), receiving yards (350), and receiving yards per game average (21.9).

Expectations were high for Hyde based on how much success new head coach Kyle Shanahan had with Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman when he was the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator.

The Browns are rumored to also be interested in Penn State running back Saquon Barkley in the 2018 NFL Draft. He scored 24 touchdowns, fumbled nine times and averaged 4.2 yards per rush. Fortunately for Hyde, he proved in 2017 that he was able to pull off an entire season in the starting lineup - even despite some on-and-off hip and concussion issues.

Hyde will receive a three-year deal worth more than $15 million, including $6 million in the first year, according to the NFL Network.

The Giants have shown some interest in Barkley, interviewing him at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this month along with several other running back prospects.

The 49ers negotiated with Hyde throughout the season but the two sides never came to an agreement.

And as part of the Niners' Hyde replacement plan, former Minnesota Viking Jerick McKinnon is headed west on a four-year pact, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Browns have been had a busy few days, adding three players via trade and agreeing to deals with a handful of free agents.

With the Giants trying to address the offensive line in free agency, it means Barkley going to the Giants with the second overall pick just became a bit more realistic. Fells will be expected to help out as a blocker in the running game. The team's remaining running backs are Matt Breida, Joe Williams, Raheem Mostert and Jeremy McNichols.
