On Wednesday morning, the James Beard Foundation announced the final nominees for the 2018 James Beard Awards, considered by some to be the Oscars of the food industry.

First among the Philadelphia nominees is Ellen Yin of High Street Hospitality Group, who is nominated for Outstanding Restaurateur.

This was Randolph's third consecutive time as a "Best Chef: Midwest" semifinalist. Also at the 2017 James Beard Awards, Gioia's Deli was one of five restaurants nationwide recognized as an "America's Classic."

The finalists for Best Chef: Southwest are Michael Fojtasek (Olamaie in Austin), Bryce Gilmore (Barley Swine in Austin), Steve McHugh (Cured in San Antonio), Martín Rios (Restaurant Martín in Santa Fe), and Alex Seidel (Mercantile Dining & Provision in Denver). This year, Zahav received a new chef nomination, this time for Camille Cogswell, under the category Rising Star Chef. The category is reserved for chefs aged 30 or younger. Christensen is the only new name in the category; Link and Hamilton were finalists past year.

While the District dominates the category for Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic, representation is absent from many categories, including Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Baker, Outstanding Bar Program and Outstanding Chef. Landau co-owns the restaurant with wife Kate Jacoby.

The James Beard Awards will be presented May 7 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Look through the full list of James Beard 2018 nominations here.
