Well, I don't know about other features, but I'm looking forward to using the Plus Codes in Google Maps and I hope third-party apps like Ola incorporate this feature soon as it will make it easier for me to navigate the driver to pick-up location in one go. With 'Add an Address' feature, Google is aiming to bring those locations on its map that have been missing till so far.

In yet another effort to expand coverage, Google Maps will add support for plus codes in India.

To use a Plus code, users need to simply enter the code with the city name into Search field on Google or Google Maps.

Plus Codes can be used for different reasons like sharing the venue of a place, or, providing directions to emergency services to a place that's too remote or has a very complicated address. At the bottom, you will notice an address or a plus code.

Plus codes work in places that haven't been mapped. Plus codes utilise a combination of area codes and local codes to provide custom addresses to unidentified people and places. Searching for Plus code straight on Google app will also show the exact location on Maps as the top result.

Where to find Plus Codes for your address. Google says it will encourage users to share only the address, and not their personal information like name, mobile number, etc when adding an address. So, this might create confusion for some.

Google India has added a a Plus code and other features to Maps on Android, mobile and desktop in order to make address search simpler across the country.

"Similar to adding businesses, users can submit new or missing addresses through this feature, and Google will make sure the address is searchable in due course after verification". For instance, the codes could cause confusion if you're booking a cab at your address which shares the same codes with nearby houses in your area. Moreover, users will also get Local Guides points for each valid submission.

"Smart Address Search helps doing exactly that: if Google Maps doesn't understand the address precisely, it will try to use all the pieces of information in the address and provide options of landmarks and points of interest that the user can best identify with - exactly like a person would have".

Suren noted that understanding addresses, especially in the Indian context, has always been a relentless pursuit for Google. This feature can be used to communicate a location in various real-life use cases and it will also help businesses to convey their locations.

Google also announced that its voice navigation service on Google Maps will be available in six new Indian languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.
