Florida State is the No. 9 seed in the West Region and will play Missouri (20-12) on Friday in Nashville.

It was supposed to be a rebuilding season for the Seminoles after losing three starters from last year's NCAA tournament team to the National Basketball Association.

The selection committee released its field Sunday night.

The last NCAA Tournament game the program won was an 86-78 victory over Clemson in 2010.

And Loyola out of the Valley will play Miami Thursday in Dallas. Despite getting Michael Porter Jr. back, the Tigers lost to No. 12 seed Georgia in the second round of the SEC Tournament.

"I was praying to God we wouldn't end up in Wichita", he said.

Even though the vast majority of bracket projections had the Tigers safely in the field, pegged by most as an 8 or 9 seed, the players and coaches erupted when Missouri popped up on the screen.

But first things first and that is the Tigers first round matchup against the Seminoles of Florida State.

Overall, the Noles have made 16 appearances in March Madness, last making the Sweet 16 in 2011.

This is Missouri's 27th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, though their 1994 appearance was vacated. They made the Elite Eight in 2009.

As most experts predicted, the strength of the Seminoles' quality wins apparently outweighed any concerns about their late-season losses.

Florida State will need good games from Terance Mann and Phil Cofer to advance.

The team's matchup against Missouri will carry additional intrigue thanks to the return of Mizzou's Michael Porter Jr., a consensus five-star recruit and potential National Basketball Association lottery pick who was sidelined until the SEC tournament, where he only played in one game before his team was sent back to Columbia to await its tournament seeding. Michigan, Gonzaga and Ohio State round out the top five seeds in the West Region.
