Two pilots dead after Turkish warplane crashed

Turkish military plane crashed in Turkey's province of Izmir, DHA agency reports, citing military sources.

Last month, three people died in another accident with a Turkish military training aircraft - a CASA CN-235 - in the country's southern Isparta Province.

"Our training aircraft, which left the Cigli/Izmir 2nd Main Jet Base Command today as part of a planned training flight, crashed".

A military statement said the SF-260D light trainer plane went down around 10:49 a.m. on Friday after taking off from Çiğli air base near the Aegean port city of Izmir.

According to the media, the plane fell down just after the take-off.

An investigation has begun with a team already on the scene, the General Staff said.

"The reason for the crash of the training aircraft which departed from the 2nd Main Jet Base Command has not yet been determined", the statement added.
