The Jets officially have an offensive coordinator

It's officially official: Jeremy Bates is going to be the Jets' new offensive coordinator. In 2006, Bates joined Shanahan's staff in Denver as an offensive assistant before becoming the Broncos' quarterbacks coach the next year.

"Jeremy is a talented coach who has a sound understanding of what it takes to build a successful offense", Jets coach Todd Bowles said in a statement.

The Jets offense struggled for much of last season under Morton. "I look forward to him working together with our offensive coaches". "Having spent last season with us, he offers continuity and has a good sense of what we need to do to improve".

Bates was the Jets' QBs coach in 2005, a season which saw him mentor Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde, Jay Fiedler, Brooks Bollinger and current Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

This is Bates' second chance as an offensive coordinator.

The New York Jets have added offensive coordinator to quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates' title and hired Rick Dennison as offensive line coach/run game coordinator, the team announced Wednesday.

He has also worked as an assistant under Mike Shanahan in Denver and Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay during his coaching career. Bates was also the assistant head coach/offense for Pete Carroll with the Seahawks. The 41-year-old, who played football at Tennessee and baseball at Rice, is the son of former long-time NFL and college coach Jim Bates.

Dennison, meanwhile, spent last season as Buffalo's offensive coordinator.

In interviews at the Super Bowl, Cousins said he would be excited to work under Bates. He went to the Jets the following season as Herman Edwards' quarterbacks coach. Serving as the Broncos' offensive coordinator from 2006-08, Denver ranked seventh in yards per game and was one of two teams to rank in the top ten in both passing and rushing.

Jackson, meanwhile, has been an assistant coach for 15 years. He's a prospective free agent. McCutcheon informed the team he would not return this season in order to spend more time with his family.
