Pramod Singh Kushwaha, DCP, Special Cell Delhi Police, at a press conference told the media that, "The Delhi Police Special Team has arrested Ariz Khan alias Junaid, who had been involved in incidents of bombing and terrorist attacks, which also included the 2008 Delhi serial blasts".

Juniad was nabbed from the Indo-Nepal border days after India's most wanted terrorist, Abdul Subhan Qureshi, accused of 2008 serial blasts in Gujarat was arrested by the Special Cell after a brief firing from Ghazipur on January 22. Two Indian Mujahideen terrorists had been killed in the encounter then and as many were arrested. Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma had lost his life during the gunfight. While two IM suspects were gunned down in the encounter, Khan and another IM suspect Shezad had escaped. He is an expert in making and executing bombs and was involved in serial bomb blasts in Delhi. He was also allegedly involved in five bomb blast cases including the ones in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Delhi.

While Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information about Khan, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh. Police sources said Khan had bought wires and other materials needed to construct the explosive device from Delhi's Lajpat Rai Market and had sourced explosives from Udupi in Karnataka. He was scheduled to meet a contact in UP when he was caught, added the officer. "After living in Nepal for a few years, both left for Saudi Arabia", the police officer said.
