The North's Alpine coach, Pyon Yong Do, says attending the Olympics has a "significant meaning" though winning competitions are important, too.

The North Korean leader's sister invited Moon to a summit in the North, a move that has drawn attention away from the Games and has been called an attempt to drive a wedge between the US-South Korea military alliance.

President Moon hosted Kim at the presidential mansion for lunch on Saturday - a session in which Kim extended an invitation for Moon to visit North Korea later this year.

U.S. President Donald Trump and the North Korean leadership traded insults and threats of nuclear war as tensions rose, with Trump repeatedly dismissing the prospect or value of talks with North Korea.

Samjiyon Band, a North Korean classical music ensemble, held their "Special Concert by Samjiyon Band for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics", concert on February 11 at the Haeoreum Theater in Seoul.

South Korea accommodated both the North Korean government officials and members of the art troupe at the Walkerhill hotel in Seoul. After the game, the entire group walked around to the Koreans' bench to greet them and pose for photos.

Moon replied: "Our meeting was precious".

In December, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's offered to start talks with North Korea without pre-conditions, but the State Department later said there would first have to be a "period of calm" in which Pyongyang suspends testing before any negotiations could begin.

Pyon said he was happy to see the Korean hockey team competing with a "single-minded" unity, saying the two Koreas could also field a joint Alpine team in the future.

"The grievances that the world has about North Korea are very legitimate".

But North Korea's awful record on human rights and the growing threat from its nuclear weapons program appeared out of mind. "There is no daylight between the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Japan on the need to continue to isolate North Korea economically and diplomatically until they abandon their nuclear ballistic missile program", Pence told reporters on the flight back to the US.
