President Moon hosted Kim at the presidential mansion for lunch on Saturday - a session in which Kim extended an invitation for Moon to visit North Korea later this year.

Her muted style stands in stark contrast to Kim Jong Un, whose eccentric style and fiery rhetoric has shaped the image of North Korea.

For its part, Japan has made clear that it favors the swift resumption of joint US-South Korean military exercises, which had been put off until after the Olympics in an effort to smooth the path for North Korea's participation at PyeongChang.

The good news is that South Korea's people are increasingly backing America over President Moon Jae-in and his unlikely new friend, Kim Jong Un.

Kim Yo Jong and Kim Yong Nam arrived Friday afternoon, leading a senior delegation. They were joined by North Korea's nominal head of state, Kim Yong Nam.

Many analysts are skeptical about Kim Jong Un's motivations for this sudden outreach, especially as he continues to assert his desire to press ahead with his nuclear weapons program to fend off the "hostile" United States. "My daughter said she felt proud after seeing South and North Korea performing together". Before now, she had been seen mainly in photos, but often in the background, as her brother took center stage.

More than 150,000 South Koreans entered a lottery for tickets to the two performances the North Korean troupe will hold in South Korea.

A private jet took off from Incheon airport in South Korea, carrying Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and the rest of the North's unprecedented deputation whose presence drew the spotlight away from sporting endeavor and raised uncomfortable questions for South Korea's allies.

"Because I got pregnant outside of North Korea, when I was repatriated to North Korea, I was forced to abort my baby without any anaesthetics", she said.

A rare invitation to Pyongyang for South Korea's president marked Day Two of the North Korean Kim dynasty's southern road tour, part of an accelerating diplomatic thaw that included some Korean liquor over lunch and the shared joy of watching a "unified" Korea team play hockey at the Olympics.

As it turned out, with the two Koreas celebrating a moment of unity, the United States was left outmaneuvered by an adversary and out of step with an ally.

The thaw between North and South ahead of the Olympics comes at a time when Pyongyang is under tightening United Nations sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile programs, having tested missiles previous year that could hit other continents.

Does this man not know that the Olympic Games are not supposed to be political?

Kim Yo Jong told Moon that relations would improve quickly once he meets with her brother.

Ms. Kim Yo Jong is the first member of the ruling Kim family bearing the bloodline of the sacred Mount Paektu, a centrepiece of the North's idolisation and propaganda campaign, to cross the border into the South since the 1950-53 Korean War.

The Trump administration, and successive American administrations before it, has insisted that North Korea must give up its nuclear weapons program if it wants to be treated as part of the worldwide community. A Moon-Kim summit would mark the first time leaders of two countries have met in 11 years. The North has also sent a several hundred women-strong cheering squad, an orchestra with singers and dancers and a demonstration taekwondo team that will perform in Seoul and places near the Olympic venues.

In general, the USA and its allies were against the North Korean parade being held, calling it provocative. -South Korean war games that North Korea claims are preparation for invasion. They handed the torch over to figure skater Yuna Kim, a South Korean who won the gold medal in 2010 and the silver medal in 2014 who lit the Olympic cauldron.
