His companies have missed deadline after deadline and recorded massive losses. SpaceX, Ketcham and others have told me, has helped spur the rebound of the states aerospace industry, hit hard by the end of the space shuttle program in 2011.

It all began in Pretoria, South Africa. The images looked as if they were plucked from science fiction. Right now, he wants to be an engineer who designs roller coasters. His younger brother and sister would stay with their mother, so he volunteered to go with their father. Again, it is designed to be relatively cheap to build and launch, and to be reusable. Its hypersensitive battery and computerized innards would never make it on a planet with no atmosphere.

At 17, he moved to Canada to study physics and economics at Ontario's Queen's University. Indeed, management is forecasting a negative gross margin for Model 3 in Q1 even if Model 3 production really does exit the quarter at a rate of 2,500 units per week.

Instead he founded Zip2, an online newspaper platform, with his younger brother Kimbal.

Not much room in there for a merger. Aged 31, Mr Musk netted $165m. "Of course, anything boring is terrible". They became more curious about how things moved through space and time. His companies are leaders in solar energy, high-tech batteries, self-driving cars, public transportation and, yes, space. "Those organics, in that environment, I wouldn't give them a year", he said. I lost count at eight. He was a controlling husband, she said, pushing her to dye her hair more and more blonde.

Separately, Musk said that Jon McNeill, who had been head of the company's sales and service group, had left the company.

Eight years after they married, they divorced, in a messy, multi-million dollar separation. The were marvels of engineering and remain the most powerful rocket motors ever, producing an incredible 1.5 million pounds of thrust each.

The Tesla Roadster was seen as a moving object in four separate observations. But assuming those collisions don't tear the car apart, the radiation will. "I'll be happy, I'll consider it a win, if it clears the pad and doesn't blow the pad to smithereens".

On that front, Tesla has shown a talent for tapping different sources, such as last summer's high-yield bond issue.

What is also unclear is whether the car was built in a perfect clean room. The answer may lie in SpaceX as mankind looks eagerly up to the skies to make the great escape from Earth, so that the species may survive. It was a characteristic take for a man preoccupied with human extinction. He sold his first software for a video game he called Blastar at the age of 11. Not for the first time, SpaceX revised its projections.

The other advantage for Elon Musk's success is a global inspiration to other technological risk takers. He was about a year old when the last Apollo mission (Apollo 17) flew.

The red 2008 roadster - equipped with cameras and carrying an astronaut dummy dubbed 'Starman' is now thought to be heading towards Mars.

This fired up tweeter then dropped some serious truth bombs, explaining that space rocket launches help with weather and earthquake prediction, tracking climate change and oceanography, location and long-range communication technologies and disaster management.

Regardless of intention, the Roadster has inspired millions of people to look up. This will clear the road to success.

According to the revised data ... it will take the Tesla about 18.8 months to complete one trip around the sun.

Private enterprise will always provide a service or manufacture a product much faster, more efficiently and at a much lower cost than the government or a government agency. The scattering of tiny fragments of an electric vehicle is pollution at the minimum - and a safety hazard for future missions at worst. A working Hyperloop is, without doubt, a long way off.
