Brooklyn girl dies after suffering flu-like symptoms

- Officials with the medical examiner's office will attempt to determine if the death of a 5-year-old New York City girl is related to the flu.

Her mother found her unresponsive Saturday evening in their Brownsville home, sources said. She had flu like symptoms. Sources said she had suffered from a fever for a week. "According to the mother, it happened so quickly". She was taken to Brookdale Hospital but it was too late to save her. "One minute she's with her daughter, and within 10 minutes she lost her child". "She said, 'Help, ' so I got down on the floor with her and tried to do mouth-to-mouth until the ambulance came".

City Health Department officials have confirmed the deaths of three children from flu, including an 8-year-old girl from Queens.

She is the fourth New York City child to die this flu season who tested positive for the highly-contagious virus.
