Rio Ferdinand's tweet after Alexis Sanchez misses Bournemouth vs Arsenal

A few days ago, it seemed as though Sanchez's long expected move to City was done and dusted, with several reports indicating that the Chilean forward had agreed personal terms with the Premier League leaders ahead of a £20 million move to the Etihad Stadium.

"He's being vague, we have left him at home because of the situation", Wenger told Sky Sports.

Asked if Sanchez's exit is imminent, Wenger said: 'Yes, don't read too much in it because even I don't know which way it will go. It is likely that the wantaway striker will be playing for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, with just the small matter of "when" to be ironed out, and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand seems to think so.

Should Jose Mourinho manage to land the 29-year-old, one man who will be delighted yet a little embarrassed is Rio Ferdinand. Hours back Liverpool were seen as one of the potential buyers but now once again it has all come down to the two Manchester giants.

But now everything has changed and in light of Wenger dropping Sanchez, Ferdinand has given his take on the situation on Twitter.

"They are top of the league, they are going to win the league this season, they are in the Champions League, they are looking like they will be in the final for the League cup, the FA Cup as well potentially". Incidentally he's won trophies with us.

Arsene Wenger admitted on Friday that the Chilean is unlikely to sign a new deal at the club, who are reportedly prepared to sell him for a cut-price fee this window instead of letting him depart on a free transfer in the summer.

It is hard to envisage Sanchez staying beyond January, but Arsenal will not sell him unless they can bring in a replacement, with a £35m bid for 20-year-old Malcom expected this week.
