Murder investigation launched after attack in TUI travel agency

A 28-year-old woman has died after she was attacked at the travel agents where she worked.

Detectives have also confirmed that a 30-year-old man from the St Helens area has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Several shops in the area were closed immediately after the incident and the 28-year-old woman was taken to hospital, where she later died.

He is now being held for questioning at an undisclosed police station on Merseyside.

"A 30 year-old man from the Southport area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is now being held in custody".

The woman's next of kin have been informed, police added.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the attack at the TUI branch in Southport on Saturday.

Merseyside Police believe the incident was "domestic related".

"We send our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the staff member involved".

"We're doing everything possible to assist the local police with their investigation and support our staff and customers at this hard time".

Officers were called to the travel agents on Chapel Street in the town at about 13:25 GMT after reports a woman was injured.

Delivery driver Rich Lawson, 27, was dropping off a package at the nearby Vision Express shop when he said he was ushered in and locked inside by staff. They rushed her into the ambulance, a couple of people have said she was being held hostage.
