41-year-old William Thomas Chisholm has been charged with capital murder following a shooting at the Walmart Supercenter on Highway 12 in Starkville that killed 42-year-old Shauna Witt. She later died from her injuries.

Officials says Witt worked as an optometrist, whose practice is located inside the store.

Close friends and family of the victim tell police Chisholm and Witt were in an "on again off again" dating relationship. Chisholm is now out on a felony bond for an incident related to the victim.

Starkville police and Oktibbeha County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Walmart at 1010 Highway 12 West. Chisholm, who is now out on a felony bond for an incident related to the victim, was taken into custody without incident. They say the scene is secure and no further threat exists.

One male was confronted on the scene, after a brief struggle he was detained by police.

Witt was the only person injured at the time of the shooting.

According to SPD, Chisholm's charge has been upgraded to capital murder. Follow the Starkville Daily News for updates.
